Tropical Storm Warning up from Sebastian to Flagler Beach
05:01 PM EDT - 27 August 1999

Update 9:30PM Recon has pressure down to 980 mb... Motion still almost stationary. Timeframe may change..

This could be good news, as that means fringe effects may only be seen. However, the Hurricane Watch remains...

The track still takes it north and away from landfall. It still will be a close call with the eye passing within 100 miles from Cape Canaveral Sunday AM. The all clear for Florida however, is still not near being sounded. So the error in track could be large. Do not let your guard down.

This site is being overloaded now, it may go down temporarily, but it will come back up after a few minutes if it does -- sorry about this.

Also, during times like these, sites such as ours tend to get overloaded. And therefore I suggest getting a few links for other sites if you have not. Also if an advisory (such as strike probabilities) is not showing up correctly here, then you can look at the Storm Spotlight page to find alternate sources for the advisory text. Of course, the
National Hurricane Center/Tropical Prediction Center and The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). If that fails use other links.

For East Central Florida residents and guests looking for more information such as Evacuation Routes and Planning tips see the following pages: [Brevard] [Volusia] [Flagler] [Indian River] [Inland] [News Media]
These have links to the county sites which gives evacuation information and shelter locations.

Also our links page has links to other areas in Florida -- look for the Emergency Management County pages.

DENNIS NOT RESPONDING TO 2ND TROUGH (#1)
Posted by: Mike Anderson
Posted On 05:53PM 27-Aug-1999 with id (QURNQVSNRPQNRQT*)

Well i have been looking at the loops all day and i still see a due west heading for the most part, I am real shocked that a Hurricane watch has not been posted further south, DENNIS has been moveing almost due west with a hint of a north movement, this is the way im expecting DENNIS will move through the night, HOWEVER for the first time i am seeing a slight chance that DENNIS will start this slight turn later tonight, but for now ill hold to my forecast and go for the STUART area or just north of that lacation, Mike Anderson Florida WX

Dennis appeward to be moving W on the loops. Also it looks like Cindy is moving WNW again. I think Dennis will make landfall North of West Palm Beach. I would prepare, warnings could go up in the middle of the night and ou could wake up to it. BE READY!!!

Is this speculation on Dennis? (#3)

Ok This is now getting down to the wire and the news stations are still holding out for a N.C. Landfall as of 8:00pm. What is the deal? Does the East coast North of Miami have that kind of time to prepare if they come back in the middle of the night and say oops we made a mistake? Is Dennis truly strengthening or is the most recent pressures a nightfall fluctuation? Please respond if you have time. I am learning from everything said here on how to read the maps and models.

DENNIS SITTING STILL AGAIN (#4)

DENNIS had been moving to almost the due west, latest has seen DENNIS sit again, this has to be in responce to the 2nd trough that now as i see it has also begun to berak down, the east flow pushing DENNIS to the west has wedged DENNIS between itself and the trough, this trough was the last chance to pull DENNIS on a north turn, However as this battel between the building east flow will surley break this trough down tonight, As seen on the last few loops this flow has started to undercut the trough already, DENNIS is starting to get his act together better tonight and im expecting to see a rapid blow up with this developing dangerious system, still looks like the MARTIN COUNTY area STUART, north, ill be on all night Mike Anderson Florida WX.

Cindy Due West (#6)

Cindy is moving Due was on sattelite pics. If this continues this also might play into Dennis. Folks in Florida better be alert tonight, maybe even wake up in the middle of the night and check updates because it is getting very close to Florida. IF ti continues WNW or W, we will probably see a warnign and Florida would not have much time to prepare or evacuate. Check your Hurricane stuff tonight. Be ready.

Dennis Sits Again (#8)

No movement from Dennis last 3 hours or so. That meteorologist from from Orlando says he thinks he's seeing signs of a northward turn (probably because it stalled again). But this is more likely due to it battling the upper level winds from that pesky trough. As soon as it breaks through motion will again resume. Dennis goes to the well once again. The pressure has dropped to 982mb from 991mb, winds were kept at 80, but this storm is deepening. Next few advisories will show an increase in hurricane force winds. This deepening could also be contributing to the stall. Question is , what direction will it resume motion in...270,280,300,330....we'll see.

Trough; Low near Panhandle (#9)

My buddy Glenn Richards now says key to Dennis turning north is "developing low" near FL Panhandle. They're grasping at straws here. If you look at the latest loops the area of cloudiness near Louisiana/panhandle is pulling NE, however, beyond that the trough diminishes and cloudiness is actually moving west suggesting a split flow. If Dennis can withstand the last gasp of the trough it appears that a hole will open up for him to resume a track to the west. Since there has been little movement it seems Dennis can outlast this "developing spin" that will cross north FL. My money is on Dennis. The pressure continues to drop and he is expanding. Soon wind speeds will increase and we'll see the eyewall return with a CAT 2 by tomorrow, maybe CAT 3 late Saturday. This is getting interesting folks.

Things are looking very interesting right now. Florida landfall is looking more and more favorable, looks like its all up in the air to me.

HELLO NO ONE HAS POASTED IN A WHILE SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YALL ARE THINKING ABOUT DENNIS AND HIS MOVEMENT NOW. AND THE NHC STILL SAYS HE WILL TURN TO THE NORTH BY TOMMOROW. THEY SAY THAT EVERY DAY TOMORROW, TOMORROW, I DON'T THINK IT WILL EVER TURN.

Florida seems to have Dodged the Bullet (#13)

Well, it looks like Florida has dodged the bullet again. The latest report as of 5:00 am says that Dennis is moving toward the North North West. Will that continue or will he play a guessing game again today? He really Does act like Dennis Mitchell of the famous T.V. show and comic strip.
