Aug. 2004 post-Charley aerials added to Charlotte County GIS.

Hello all,

Charlotte County has updated their Geographic Information System (GIS) application with aerials of Charlotte County just after Charley struck. You can pan (hand symbol), zoom in or out, and select to view Feb. 2004 aerials and Aug. 2004 (post-Charley) aerials.

Just go to:

http://www.ccgis.com/gis/asp.htm?Title=Charlotte%20County%20Geographic%20Information%20System

This map is preset to zoom in so just click anywhere on the map to start. On the right side you will will see the various functions the map can perform. You can uncheck the boxes to remove parcel lines, etc, and select which aerial years you wish to view.

For starters, you may wish to aim the cursor at the base of the (Peace River) bridge on either side. The north side of the bridge is the Port Charlotte side, the south side is the Punta Gorda side. Keep "drilling" on that area (about 4 clicks) until you reach the first aerial "layer." The default aerial layer is Feb. 2004. To select the post-Charley aerials, simply uncheck the Feb. 2004 aerial option then check the Aug. 2004 post-Charley aerial option, then click on the "refresh map" button.

I've spent some time looking around and really enjoyed it. You can zoom down on places and see pretty good detail. Enjoy.
