latest discussion forecaster is mentioning the more tropical appearance and hinting at indecision over whether to classify it as such. based on looks i can see plenty of support for such a move, and remember reading about true warm core systems forming within a relative colder envelope. system is currently over waters just over 70 F. such systems have been named and tracked before (recent examples nicole '98, olga '01). my thinking is that it has more in common with those mediterranean hybrid cyclones that happen from time to time.
regardless, this is a true oddball system. helps to bridge the late lull last season and whatever is to come.
enjoy the show, everybody.
