Okay. There is pretty much a universal water temperature to support most ALL tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Basin. That temperature is the infamous 26C (80F). 80 degrees F will certainly support a disturbance, a depression/TS, and probably a cat. 1 hurricane. For a cat. 2 and up, I'd say at least 83 degrees is needed (probably warmer in most cases). This could be a seaon-long trend and if we get any storms up the alley this year, this could be a big boost to them. That is IF these SSTA are a trend. |
