Storm Numbers

Took a look at the past 60 years (1942 - 2001) and compiled the average number of storms that have occurred on or after a certain date. Might be useful to check back on this as the season progresses.

07/30 8.65 (range 17 to 3)
08/10 7.98 (17 to 3)
08/20 7.17 (14 to 3)
08/30 6.07 (12 to 2)
09/10 4.58 (11 to 2)
09/20 3.45 (10 to 0)
09/30 2.38 (7 to 0)

Cheers,
ED

Re: Storm Numbers

Thank You Ed

BETSY 1965

Ok..so if this is Hurricane HISTORY may I remind everyone that 1965 (an analog year from the Gray August Update) had a storm that was the second named storm of the season in the first week or so of September.

It went SW along Florida's coast like Christobal (a stubborn quirky hurricane) and then we had Bertha make landfall where Betsy made landfall.

Something to think on.. does history repeat itself? EVER? Does lightning strike in the same place two times. Can you turn back the hands of time while marching forward into the future?

Some people say never look back, they obviously aren't climotologists are they?

Hey Hurric.... you happy???

smile i think u won

Re: BETSY 1965

betsy had a weird path for an intense hurricane. dont bet on seeing something like that in the rest of your lifetime.
on a similar note.. westward moving hurricanes hitting the east coast.. really anywhere from the keys to the mid atlantic.. have been less common in the last half century than in previous times. i wonder when this trend will reverse or at least normalize.
