Eastern Pacific Inactive

I can't seem to figure out the cause of the decreased activity in the eastern pacific this year. I have been noticing over the years that this trend is occuring as the the Alantic Basin somewhat increases in activity, could they be related? Thanks.

Re: Eastern Pacific Inactive

The E. Pacific has now stirred into life with TD #7E, expected to become Estelle pretty soon. The discussion says that there is a high probability that it will intensify more and could become a hurricane in 48 hours. Mid-August and they may just be about to get the 'E' storm. This time last year they were in between Guillermo and Ignacio.

I think this activity in the eastern pacific basin is related with the MJO, which makes sense because that would explain the decreased activity in the Altanic Basin for the past couple of days.
