Might as well start this now since some of you may want to report on sea/beach conditions as Sandy approaches from the south and southeast. This is the place to comment on what you are observing in your area with regard to the impacts of TC (Tropical Cyclone) Sandy. ED |

Not much beach left already.The sea is is very very rough.Winds are a steady 20 mph.The main thing here now is very high surf. |

Sustained winds, dark skies and many waves at Canaveral Seashores today (see attached pic) even though Hurricane Sandy is still 700km away from us. No rain yet. |

Here in Vero Beach we've had some good wind. A recent 53MPH gust at the airport. Sustained winds seem to be in the low to mid 20's MPH. Higher at times. Some impressive...but quick squall lines have come thru. But not nearly as much as Issac. We've had brief periods of sun in between some of the squalls. Interesting day. |

It started lightly raining here about 1 hour ago. We noticed it because we heard the rain on our air conditioners, and it woke me... 57.4 degrees, 5mph winds, 30.02 pressure(and falling), 62% humidity I'm going back to bed... |
||||||||

Winds are now 25-30mph. Rain is about an hour away based on radar. That will be the first outer band to reach me. Note: My electronic anemometer is not accurate - had to use a hand gauge. The electronic one was running about 10mph slow. |

How my area celebrates a hurricane - there are 11 of them out there, but the photo only shows about half that: |

Amazing as it sounds,here we are getting 10-20 foot waves.A1A is closed in several locations and some homes and businesses are getting flooded due to the waves coming over the sea walls.God help the people in the North East! |

It's been raining here for the past several hours. Winds are holding 20-30mph, fluctuating a little. Haven't had the hand anemometer outside for a while to verify, but it doesn't seem any stronger. |

We have sustained winds around 30 mph here in Ohio, with gusts to about 45 mph. And Sandy is about 820 miles southeast of us. Unreal. Here's a link to my local observing station. It ought to get real interesting by later tomorrow or tomorrow night, assuming it's able to keep operating. I'm about 2 miles down the shoreline from it. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=hhlo1 |

Winds have picked up now, their about 30-40mph. Its raining steady here now too. I'd expect them to pick up quite a bit more between 3 and 9pm EST, which is when it is said to be at its worse wind wise. Power outages are at 7,639 in New England and only going to continue to climb. Side Note: People still are not taking this storm seriously in my area. I'm being told "This is going to be another Irene" or "Its sunny and nice here in Keene" when do people seriously take preparation... All I know is I've got my bottled water, cell phones charged, Flashlights, Candles, and non perishables... |

Wind Gusts have gotten alot more prominent here. Prob 30-50 now. Wind gusts of 76 mph on the Isles of Shoals and 62 mph in Londonderry were recorded. On Mount Washington, the highest wind gust was 118 mph by 6 p.m. Their saying 100,000 without power... We have lost power 4 times in the last 2-3 hours... But because were 5 miles within a hospital, we get it back fairly quickly... Random, but Does CFHC have an App? For phones? |

I'm back - power came back up about 5 minutes ago. We never got strong sustained winds, but we got gusts I'd guess 50-60mph. The wind direction swung to the W and SW much faster than expected, and that helped reduce wind speeds for me. Tides are now high - 2' surge evident - but no damage. No waves. Wind is basically stopped - slow rain now. |

Still seeing gusts close to 45 mph here. I would estimate the peak gust was around 60 mph after midnight last night. Very little damage, a lot less than I was expecting, mostly just branches and a few small trees. Other than a couple brief lulls we've been having gusts over 35 mph for close to 60 hours straight. Should wind down overnight as the remains drift up toward Lake Erie and the winds back more offshore. |

Here are some peak, officiated U.S. wind gusts from Sandy. Obviously, Sandy was one monster wind storm. Generally speaking, these anemometers were located at or below 30' above ground. Buildings taller than three stories likely received gusts as much as 15% or so above these reported values. Additionally, while representative, these reports do not necessarily capture the very highest gust occurring within any 25 mile radius. Again, another 15% or so higher could be estimated to have occurred within any given 25 mile radius where an anemometer was not fortuitously positioned. The Mount Washington Observatory in New Hampshire, at an elevation of 6,288 feet, recorded the highest official gust from Sandy, clocking in at 140 MPH.
