Event Alicia hits Galveston (by HanKFranK)
     Early on August 18, 1983, Hurricane Alicia came ashore near Galveston, TX, having steadily strengthened from an old thunderstorm complex since August 15. The storm was a low-end category 3 at landfall, with 115 MPH winds and a pressure at 962 mb. The storm left nearly 1.5 billion in damage in the Houston area, and 21 people dead. This was the most destructive hurricane to directly hit Texas since Carla in 1961.
