The "South FL Box" [Re: MikeC]
      #42390 - Tue Jul 12 2005 12:23 PM

I always thought that if storms travel through the "box" by Puerto Rico and the northern Leward Islands, that South Florida was never hit by the storm? or is it the opposite?

I truly have to ask this question. Is Emily being named early because it would make a historical moment or is she really meeting the requirements for a named storm? I have seen so many awsome storms be ignored because they were not significant to shipping, or landmasses. (I understand the finances) but we have a new generation of people who are addicted to sensationalism. I am asking these questions to separate the hooplah from the science.

Protection? [Re: drcrazibob]
      #42392 - Tue Jul 12 2005 12:35 PM

Anybody else wonder why the US doesn't go out into the Carib and Atlantic and build huge barrier islands some 3,000' in the air covering hundreds of miles across to break up these storms?

Seems to me it would be one heck of alot cheaper to buy dirt and rock than everyone's homes for the next 100 years.

Good morning all, it is way to early to discuss a curve in any direction. Remember, Charley made a turn I believe within 2-3 hours of it's last forecast. Also, while the main discussion is on Emily, I had mentioned a few days ago the Mid Atl states possibly getting hit near simultaneously by what may be Franklin. Looking at MM5 most current, WGOM looks like it could be busy in the upcoming days also.

Hmmm, since "Emily" means "eager", maybe she is eager to make a name for herself.

But then: The noun eager has one meaning:

Meaning #1: a high wave (often dangerous) caused by tidal flow (as by colliding tidal currents or in a narrow estuary)

The adjective eager has 2 meanings:

Meaning #1: having or showing keen interest or intense desire or impatient expectancy

Meaning #2: marked by active interest and enthusiasm

I always liked the models on hurricane alley but im not paying them money to see them.

They always had like 25 different ones which was cool so if anyone has a account they would like to share on there let me know last year my son found a back door into that area of the site. Not hacking but they did not make it hard if you seen the page before they went pay site.

Anyway i feel more today like this is going to be a west west west storm as i still see nothing at this time that is going to take it north but that can change.

I hope this leaves everyone alone. So if you know of a place with all those Spaghetti Models please tell me would love to see them on here and not just on ch 13

I'm with you ralph, why pay to see the models. They are nice and I know it costs someone time and money to have them on their website but for a couple of months out of the year, I don't want to pay for it. same reason I won't pay for Accuweather. Thankfully there are still a lot of free sites from which to get information.

Emily in true pioneer spirit is heading West

i really am praying this does stay west as i have many kids in my church who want to go to camp monday to friday next week in south GA but if a hurricane is coming this way by then parents are not going to let there kids go, and this camp has no other dates, so its either next week or no week. So my prayers are so these kids who for months now have waited for this time to go to camp. So emily please stay west and hit somthing that does not have people there

Be sure to check out JB’s Tropical Outlook today, for his theatrics more so than his Emily and Franklin forecast (which do not necessarily inspire me with confidence) … that guy is even crazier than a few mets here.
