I don't think it's going into the GOM, most of the dynamics for the northward turn are coming into play. The shortwave trough has not stalled and is still pushing that ridge out to sea. We should start to see a more northward motion when the trough clears the east coast in about 6-7 hours.

Hi! I'm north of you in Richmond Hill, and I'm also on the water. I don't anticipate any major damage from Jeanne. Having said that, I have the supplies to go into the defensive mode, just in case the track should change.

Depends on the size of the bags, but presuming a 35 pound average bag...
420 pounds.
Just got back from checking in on my kid (18) sister. She hadn't realized the severity of things. Failed to convincer her to leave with me, but I have a strong feeling she'll be stopping by soon.

Just tossing in my .02 worth, but our David Chandley the weekend met from WSB-TV said this morning that he did not have confidence in the track and likened the predicted turn for Jeanne to something like a big oceanliner stopping and turning right. It would take a long time to do that.
He then showed two possible tracks, both of which are somewhat familiar to everyone. The first track takes it across CFL and into the GOM making a second landfall near the AL/MS line and taking an esque track. The second track shows it crossing the state of Florida back into the GOM and making another landfall in the panhandle and tracking right over Atlanta.....
Sheesh, I'm sick of this already and I live in Atlanta...Snow anyone?

Brian Norcross is on 610 a.m. in Ft. Lauderdale which is live broadcast from channel 4 news.
I cccan't tttttyyype to wwelll, my fingers are nnnumb and the kids are in sweaters and blankets, a.c. at 60 degrees. I duct taped the door jams and window corners, ....Kids warned not to go near a door. Lets see how long this will keep the house cool this time. The humidity factor was awful in Francis.
Mom in Vero called to say barometer is 29.3. Was 26.2 during Francis.
Oh! And does anybody know what to feed an iguana? My son just found him outside and insists he bring him in for the storm. EEEWWW!!!!

Well I for one bugged out of where I live and guess where I went.....Orlando. I figured the lesser of two evils would be to go second floor of a hotel that was on the disney grid. Power only went down for about an hour with . I hope everyone stays safe.

Pam, Shaggy Dude-- Those are good points. I have been blessed to not have been affected economically like so many others. I just sincerely hope that people are not trying to ride this storm out near or on the coast in damaged homes. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but it seems like so many others are underreacting. My neighbor was out REMOVING his plywood from his windows today due to the westerly jog in the forecast...

After seemingly quiet most of the day, our Polk County Emergency Management people finally got off the pot early this afternoon. They had originally announced that 9 shelters plus a special needs shelter would open at noon, but pushed the time back until 2 PM. Now that have just announced a mandatory evacuation of mobile home parks and low lying areas. That's what you call GREAT TIMING, several hours after realizing that the centre would be coming dangerously near your area!

Like I have said before I am so much better at helping out emotionally/physically with these disasters than I am at even understanding half of the things you guys are talking about.
So please try and help me understand this:
When/where does this N turn need to take place in order for it to:
A) Hug the E coast
B) Go up through Orlando
C) Exit the W coast into GOM
Where is the best place for me to be able to understand and track answers that you give me?

Over here, people are acting like it's just another day. Just got back from the store, shelves full of the stuff people were climbing over each other to get last time. I just hope it's because they still have leftovers from previous storms.
