CNN just started a "Gulf Coast" blog. Three guesses what it is about (hint: it's not on the coast!).
Once again this makes me crabby, and it isn't just because the full moon is in less than a week and it was necessary for me to make a special trip to the grocery tonight just to purchase a Hershey's with almonds and a bag of "Dutch Crunch" potato chips. So, another open letter to CNN. Yes, read it before it's gone (can't I be your resident cynic while Le Phil is taking a mental health break?).
Dear CNN,
If you are going to do a blog on the Gulf Coast, would you at least consider making the Gulf Coast the main topic, and not NOLA? With miles of devastated coastline, it's not like there's a lack of news along the coast with regards to (get it? " coast "...Gulf " Coast " -- it would seem to be so obvious).
Having been a resident of the Gulf Coast for many years, I can assure you that the phrase refers to coastline, just like it sounds, and not inland cities that happen to be nearby. NO ONE living on the Gulf Coast refers to NOLA as anything but "New Orleans" (and that's two syllables!).
If you still have trouble keeping it straight, then remember that the Gulf Coast received the devastating storm surge and the destructive winds of Hurricane . NOLA, on the other hand, did not, but suffered extensive flooding from what turned out to be a minor storm surge, because they allowed the Army Corps of Engineers to build Mr Go and faulty canal walls (all five "levee" breaks were actually canal walls).
And don't try to get around it by coming back and saying "Gulf Coast Region." I don't know who made that up, but no one on the Gulf Coast uses it. It would be like saying Philadelphia is part of the "Jersey Coast region." If a major hurricane wiped out Tampa and St. Pete, would the press just talk about the effects at Orlando and Disneyland?
Your coverage of certainly makes me feel like one of us is in Disneyland.

Excellent letter. I am tired of hearing about New Orleans. You are right. It isn't on the Gulf Coast. There are many gulf coast cities
and towns that were affected by both and but they have been largely ignored. New Orleans flooded because of failed
levvies. By the way, we are recovering here in Southeast Texas from the effects of . caused extensive damage to our region
but we are all working together to get things up and running. That is what community is all about.

Thats great margie! haha! Just wish they would listen to someone since I know my mother has also written numerous letters! WLOX had a special on about hitting mississippi. I haven't gotten to watch it yet but have it sitting here waiting. (if I can just get dh to hook up the vcr). Anyway, I think if you go on WLOX.com you can order a copy. MIL says it was excellent and will defintly have you crying all over again!
