Typhoon Sanba Aproaching Okinawa

On Saturday evening, strong Typhoon Sanba will pass close to Kadena AB, Okinawa, moving north toward Korea. Wind gusts of 100 knots are possible over Okinawa as Sanba passes just to the west of the island.

Sanba is now a Super Typhoon with sustained winds of 150 knots and a central pressure estimated at 911MB. Wind gusts are currently as high as 180 knots (205mph) but Sanba has peaked and a slow decline in intensity is forecast by JTWC.

MAX SUSTAINED WINDS - 150 KT, GUSTS 180 KT

Sanba is now expected to pass within 10 miles of Kadena AB, Okinawa, Saturday evening (15/23Z) with wind gusts as high as 140 knots (160mph).

Sanba has weakened and is no longer a Super Typhoon but it is still expected to pass directly over Okinawa at about 16/00Z (8PM Saturday evening EST) with winds of about 100 knots.

At 15/22Z, Typhoon Sanba was located over northeast Okinawa. Sanba passed just to the east of Kadena AB and at 2305Z Kadena had gusts as high as 78mph. Pressure is now on the rise as Sanba moves away from Okinawa on a northerly heading toward South Korea. Landfall expected near Chinju with winds of 80 knots gusting to 100 knots at 17/00Z (8PM ET on Sunday).
