A tropical wave merger with a developing area of low pressure very near and over central America has been tagged as a new Invest, 93L.

This feature has NHC designated development odds of 50% over the course of the next 5 days, and movement is expected to place Cuba, the Bahamas and possibly Florida in its sights, whatever comes of it, later in the period.

93L has been designated PTC EIGHTEEN today by NHC, with now 80% development odds (into a tropical or subtropical cyclone). It is very nearly there tonight, although might not have a well-enough defined center just yet.

Regardless of classification, EIGHTEEN is likely to bring tropical storm conditions to portions of Cuba, the Bahamas and perhaps south Florida.
