I know here in Bradenton it has been in our papers for several weeks now. If you are told to evacuate they won't make you, but once conditons get to a certain point they will not come out to help you.
They are also doing something new this year.. here if you refuse. they will take your picture in front of your house and take down your next of kin information.
AFter watching the last two seasons, If I'm told to evacuate I'm not going to question I will leave. These hurricanes are too unpreditable and getting stronger and stronger each year.
They are running a series of commercials with 911 tapes from Ivan, some of the people died.
After Katrina I decided if it's a big one, I'm leaving. Charley scared the you-know-what out of me. It was supposed to hit Tampa and nearly came over the top of our house. Thank God for the harbor -- it sucked up that way and skirted by us. Another couple of miles to the west we would have gotten the eyewall. Or if the eyewall was a little larger.
These storms are nothing to mess with. I'd rather evacuate 10 times and be wrong than to not evacuate once and be wrong.
