Bob is right. NHC has NOT officially declared TD 1 to be Alberto. Wait for the 11AM EDT Advisory.
Rapid scan satellite observations give more updates per hour. I think its around 8-12 minutes per frame. Instead of 4-6 frames per hour.
The excerpt from NCEP was where the TS Alberto came from. Also the Key West mornign weather ballon was unable to give a full report. That would hinder the models slightly. As they wouldn't get a full picture of the atmosphere above Key West. It happens frequently during Hurricane season. And is a daily occurance due to weather or technology.
51kts is in the 85-91% range to the surface. ( without my chart handy) Should be around 59mph at 1500ft. Or, 50mph using 85%, and 53mph using 91%.
(I would think that would be enough to make Alberto~danielw)
