In 1968, there were three storms...and interestingly, there were only eight storms that year in all. Three is the record for June, as I recall. Ironically, both Abby (hurricane that made landfall as a TS, I believe) and Gladys (hurricane that was made famous by a picture from Apollo in orbit) made landfall in Florida...Abby in SW Fl, and Gladys at Bayport. Gladys made landfall as a Cat II and maintained Cat I intensity all the way across, exiting at St. Augustine.
Abby moved across Florida spawning numerous tornadoes and then moved slowly up the coast from Cape Canaveral to Georgia. It passed off Jacksonville on the day Bobby Kennedy was shot; rain was so heavy schools were cancelled in Jacksonville.
