Interests in the Azores should monitor the progress of Helene. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 AM AST (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Helene was located near latitude 24.8 North, longitude 37.3 West. Helene is moving toward the north near 14 mph (22 km/h). The system should accelerate and turn toward the northeast by Sunday. On the forecast track, Helene will be approaching the Azores late Saturday or Sunday. Maximum sustained winds have dropped to near 70 mph (110 km/h) with higher gusts. Some continued weakening is forecast during the next 72 hours. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 140 miles (220 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 989 mb (29.21 inches).
