Blizzard "A", 2005, has apparently helped in coining a new meteorology term. BOMBOGENESIS . This term was used to identify the Rapid Deepening of the Low that brought the Blizzard conditions to the New England area last week. Here's an excerpt from one of the Wx reports out of Boston. AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION UPDATED NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA 820 PM EST FRI JAN 21 2005 ....MEDIUM RANGE (SAT NIGHT AND SUNDAY)... LATEST 12Z MODEL GUIDANCE IS NOW BEGINNING TO COME INTO AGREEMENT...WITH AMPLIFIED UPPER TROF BECOMING A CLOSED LOW OVER NJ 12Z SUN. AT THE SURFACE... BOMBOGENESIS TAKING PLACE SOUTH OF NEW ENGLAND SAT NIGHT INTO SUN...WITH ALL MODELS (EXCEPT THE GFS) FORECASTING A 985-989 LOW NEAR THE BENCHMARK AT 12Z SUN...AND CONTINUING TO STRENGTHEN! ONLY MODEL DEVIATING FROM THIS SOLUTION IS THE 12Z OPERATIONAL GFS. IT IS FARTHER SOUTH AND MORE PROGRESSIVE.
