Tropical Depression Nine Forms in Atlantic

Quote:

Of interest today between 4-11pm, Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast had 34,000 lightning strikes. One of the biggest outbreaks in years.

It was worse to the north. Some storm cells from Orange and Highlands county converged between Osceola and Polk counties and produced over 6000 strikes in the space of an hour, probably closer to 7. Crazy stuff, just missed the worst of it here in Orlando.

edit: 34 thousand? OK, maybe not worse, this storm petered out after 3 hours or so.
