An 8+ shallow earthquake off of the Yucatan has been modeled to produce a water rise of about 20" in Apalachee Bay, which is the peak of the possibilities. Not sure about other parts of the Gulf, but I'm not sure the threat is overly significant. Noticeable? Sure, and that's why the warning system is in place -- well, that, and the unexpected.
