Another fun fact...
To date in 2024, 6 of 7 tropical cyclones in the Atlantic basin have made landfall (5 of 6 CONUS). Helene will make landfall this week, making it 7 of 8 (6 of 7 CONUS), tying the seven in 1886. With a little over two months remaining in the back-loaded 2024 hurricane season, two more would tie the season record of 9 landfalls, observed in 1916 and again in 2020.
