As of 11:00 pm EDT yesterday evening we officially inherited tropical depression #5. At the 11:00 am EDT advisory T.D. #5 has a sustained wind of 35 mph, just under T.S. Emily status. It is at position 10.3 N 44.7 W with a minimum barometric pressure of 29.77". It is currently on a west heading or 270 degrees at a speed of 12 mph.

Latest satellite imagery shows a relatively disorganized system that is not quite embedded in the synoptic easterly trade winds as of yet. There is also some wind shear in the region so I do not expect rapid intensification in the short term.

It's way to early to determine if a future T.S. Emily will impact the U.S. and also the Florida region but the official NHC TPC forecast track during the next 5 days is through the Windward Islands and then across southern Hispaniola and that pretty much reflects the middle ground of the forecast models.

Stay tuned.
