A few hot spots under scrutiny by the NHC today. Active tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea with large somewhat ill-defined circulation and a possible center near 12.5N 79.2W at 16/18Z. System is moving to the west at about 15 knots with southwesterly shear just to the north of the system. Good satellite presentation with active convection and a chance for additional development - certainly worthy of an Invest assignment. Invest 94L - still remains disorganized southeast of Barbados with apparent center (difficult to locate) near 12.8N 57.0W at 16/18Z. Movement to the west at 10 knots with northwesterly shear just to the west of the system. RECON currently investigating - additional slow development is possible, but probably not for a few days. Weak tropical system moved inland over the Florida peninsula from the Gulf of Mexico with a possible weak center near 27.7N 81.4W at 16/19Z. System is moving slowly to the north northeast at 5 to 10 knots in an area of light wind shear with an upper level anticyclone over the peninsula. Additional development is not expected. Cheers, ED |
