AT 2 AM EDT, CATEGORY 2 HURRICANE IKE WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 25.0 NORTH, LONGITUDE 87.2 WEST, OR ABOUT 305 MILES SSE OF THE MOUTH OF THE MS RIVER. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN NEAR 100 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS. IKE IS MOVING WNW NEAR 9 MPH INTO THE CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO. IT WILL BE MAKING ITS CLOSEST APPROACH TO OUR MARINE LEGS OVERNIGHT INTO EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. SUSTAINED ELY WINDS AT THE PANAMA CITY BUOY (42039) HAVE PEAKED AT 31 KTS THUS FAR, WITH GUSTS UP TO 39 KTS. THE WAVE HEIGHTS HAVE REACHED 22 FT WITH 10-12 SEC PERIODS. LARGE SWELLS CONTINUE TO SPREAD NWD TOWARD THE COAST. STORM TIDES THUS FAR HAVE BEEN 2-3 FT FROM THE WAKULLA COUNTY COAST WWD ALONG THE PANHANDLE, AND AROUND 2 FT ALONG THE TAYLOR/DIXIE COUNTY COAST WHERE THE FLOW WAS MORE OFFSHORE AND SWELLS HAVE HAD LESS OF AN EFFECT. |
