Area of Interest - TS Flossie Heads Toward Hawaii

At 27/15Z, Tropical Storm Flossie was located at 17.8N 139.3W or about 1000 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii, with sustained winds of 55 knots, central pressure of 997MB and movement to the west northwest at 17 knots. Flossie has started to weaken with slightly cooler (26C) SSTs at and ahead of the system and increasing dry air and windshear should continue the weakening process. Flossie should clip the northeast coast of the Big Isle on Monday evening as a weakening 40-45 knot Tropical Storm and pass just south of Oahu on Tuesday morning/afternoon as a minimal TS or borderline TS/TD. Heavy rain squalls likely in the Hawaiian Islands from Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. At 27/18Z responsibility for monitoring Flossie will transfer from NHC to CPHC (Honolulu).
