Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Punta Gorda within the cone of probability when Charley turned toward the coast? I think when you are prediciting a point of landfall along the coast line when the storm is moving on a diagonal path along the coastline is extremely difficult. I think the NHC's only fault was not recognizing the turn soon enough. The local Mets had the turn pegged a couple of hours before NHC put out th word. |
