Hurricanes are to be respected in terms of what they have done in the past. The unthinkable should not be ignored but the probable should be the thing focused on.
In otherwords: Jeanne, Lenny, and Gordon are a few who did things that most people did not think of, but it is probable that this hurricane will do What the NHC says it will do within a 100 miles east or west.
