Mitch in 1998 hit 180, Dog in 1950 hit 185, Camille in 1969 and Allen in 1980 hit 190, Gilbert in 1988 hit 195, and the 1935 Labor Day hurricane likely exceeded 200 However, these are the ONLY examples I can find in the Atlantic, my guess is that it has to do with the ERC, or maybe just a coincidence that all three began to enter unfavorable environments at 175. |
