I hate quotes like this from government officials: Quote: There is ALWAYS risk at a nuclear plant. Even on a bright sun shiny day with everything in order there is risk. Nuclear plants track risk on a continuing basis as conditions change. A storm coming in, shutting down the power grid in the area and forcing use of backup generators, definitely increases risk. Storm surge and heavy rain increase risk. I do believe that the plant was well designed and built, and the operators did a good job preparing their plant for the storm and minimizing risk to the reactor core. It's what they do. Now to look out for and pray for Bermuda and to get help for the Karl victims... |
