As a side note most people do not realize is the Mississippi River does not drain southern La.. Except for rain that falls into the river itself, there are no tributaries South of B. R. and only 1 in B. R. proper and that Bayou is intersects the river on a bluff. N. Orleans itself is not drained by the river, they pump water out of their "bowl" and into the River or to Lake Ponchatrain. On the East side of the Mississippi River levees protect the lowlands from B. R. south. And levees are on the West side from Arkansas to the GOM. Now the spillway which is being used for flood diversion is a different story, but the amount of water being diverted there is so massive a one inch rain is hardly anything. S. La. would welcome a good 2 inch soaker. Sorry if I diverted from the topic, but most people believe the Mississip[pi River in La. drains the Southern part of our state, but it does not.
