At 1:00 AM Eastern Time it appeared as if Okinawa had been in the eastern eyewall for at least four hours. If you're viewing this within a few hours of my having submitted it then the following loop should enable you to see the eye's movement north just off the western side of the island. http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/mtsat/flt/t1/loop-avn.html You can click on the Stop button for the loop once or twice until it becomes the Start button and then click on the ">" forward button to view the loop's images one at a time. |

Kadena Airbase, Okinawa, Japan, reported 25.50 inches of rain in the 24 hour period between 12/0800 (EDT) and 13/0800 (EDT). I don't know what the peak winds were (probably well over 100mph), but the weather equipment did not fail. Cheers, ED |
