STY Maysek pulling away from Caroline Islands of FSM

Supertyphoon Maysak is moving away from the islands of Yap state but not before leaving destruction across many islands of the FSM (Federated States of Micronesia). Maysak formed late last week near Pohnpei and has steadily intensified while travelling west to west-northwest. It struck Chuuk as a cat 1 storm (5 deaths reported) and has caused at least tropical storm force winds to such islands as Losap, Fananu, Ulul, Puluwat, Satawal and Faraulep.

Earlier today Ulithi atoll took a direct hit from Maysak. I haven't seen any reports from there but the highest point on the islands is about 12 feet so I doubt there are a lot of places to take shelter there. Hopefully there are a few sturdy buildings that were able to withstand the winds.

Maysak is currently headed WNW toward Luzon island where it should arrive in about 4 days. Increasing shear and lower SST's should steadily weaken the storm although it may still be a cat 1 typhoon by the time it gets there.
