In the Fort Pierce/Port Saint Lucie area in Florida, I'm getting at least 30mph rainy winds - and some squalls up to 40.
At daybreak this morning I began hearing staple guns, drills and hammers securing hurricane panels.
This is so eerie....just like when I lived on Jensen Beach when Frances and Jeanne went directly over my home.
South Florida: we're all in this together.

Rain and 30-35 NE winds started around 3-3:30.
Curent: Light\moderate rain, winds NNE 25, G30
Pressure 29.55 (lowest 29.52 at 0820z\4:20 am)
Ponding and minor flooding has started again in spots. Be careful folks, please don't drive through flood waters!

Here in Loxahatchee it is very rainy. We've had 2.23" of rain since midnight. Our yard was just starting to dry out from Fay. Now, it is a total pond again.
The wind is running 10-20 mph. Kind of misleading though because we have a lot of pine trees around. Barometer is finally climbing - now 29.70 from a low of 29.54.I hope Ike is a dry storm because we can't take much more water.

Beaufort, SC (on the water) conditions:
We have slight drizzle, with winds out of the N 14, gusting to 18 MPH. In the marina where I live (yeppers, I live on a sailboat downtown) the gusts seem to be higher than at the MCAS. I'll have to look at the anemometer at lunch and see what she says.
Looks like Hanna is not making the turn to the East yet, so we may get more wind impact than previously thought. Radar shows bands coming in...rather rapidly.
I have spider lines running fore and aft on S/V Meridian, and the dock box is fully secured to the dock as of last night (it's new-ish, so I was slack in doing that).
Tonight should be interesting.

Just to show conditions 'outside' of the cone....here east of Tampa, it is a bit windy with high overcast and a LOT of humidity that snuck back in overnight on Hanna's circulation. Been an occasional very light sprinkle and we are getting low 'scudder-type' clouds under the high overcast. Warming up a lot at this point in the day. We could use some rain as Gustav and Hanna have dried us out for the past week.....and we only got about 2 inches out of Fay.

Here in Charleston, SC we have seen rain off and on throughout the morning. Not alot of wind at the moment. Gusts are probably in the 20MPH range. I expect conditions to go downhill very quickly this evening. News stations here say that between 11PM and 3AM conditions will be at their worst. Pete

Here in Johnston County (SE of Raleigh-110 miles inland) periodic heavy rain bands, calm winds at 8PM. Since the storm is to track through here early tomorrow, this should start to change shortly....

"Hanna Hunting" on I-95
|
Yesterday my family and I drove from suburban VA to central MA during the afternoon and evening. We knew we'd get soaked but ended up following the COC for 9 hours, always staying in the LF quad in the heaviest rainband and within about 50 miles of the center, all day long!!! Now I know just a little bit what the Hurricane Hunters go through. Well, at least the car got a good washing...
Plenty of 40ish gusts but nothing real bad. It was a lot like driving in a bad snowstorm all day long. Too bad they don't make a raingauge for moving vehicles. 5.24 inches at home, within about an 8 hour period.
