Andrea Conditions in your Area

This is the place to mention what conditions you are experiencing with Andrea.

In Orlando near Universal Studios, heavy rainfall, and somewhat breezy conditions.

Gulfport, Florida at 7:53 am on June 6th, the next band of rain is starting. My rain gauge shows just over 1 1/2 inches of rain since last night.

We need the rain, that is for sure.

BayNews9 just showed some damage in Sun City Center, FL. I recognize the location as my dad lives on the same block. His phone has been out all morning, so I guess the phone lines must have come down.

Plant City has had about 2 inches of rain overnight. It was relatively calm when I woke up but as i left for work, the wind came up strongly and we just had a moderate band of rain. Squall line coming.

Cocoa Beach just had a 45 minute rain band from the southwest with .75 inch in about an hour. Winds sustained at about 25-30 for 20 minutes, About 1.25 inches since mid-night. Getting lighter now at 9:30, rain has quit, winds down to 10-20 from S. Turtles nesting each night at about a dozen per mile, got to be tough for those momma turtles getting back out

Re: Andrea Conditions in your Area

Overnight at work last night it was raining from 11:45PM until 6:30AM and again from 7:45AM onwards. Rain varied from light to moderate for most of the night but there was one strong squall that moved through the area between 4:45AM and 5:15AM that saw heavy rain and gusty winds with this occurring in the Winston area of Lakeland.

North side of Lakeland now seeing light rain and gusty winds having experienced heavier rainfall a few minutes ago.

Tornado hit Gulfport a few minutes ago. Looks like it went up famous Beach Blvd. South and into Clymer Park crossing Gulfport Blvd. at Beach Blvd. The Library and Senior Center were in the path. Not like Oklahoma, but still a mess. I'll put a photo of Yummy's in Gulfport with an Oak tree that came down.

Intensifying now. Solid moderate/heavy rain with occasional gusty winds (I can tell when the flap from the exhaust fan on the roof of my classroom bangs). Major squall band should be here in the next hour or so. As often as we get power problems here I am worried about my afternoon exam.

Yummy's in Gulfport (Sandiwches and Hot Dogs) on Beach Blvd. South in the heart of our historic waterfront downtown area after the tornado went through on June 6, 2013.

Just drove from Lake Mary To Lake City (Had to, no way to change). Started getting breezy around Leesburg, the heavy rains started around Gainesville and continued north. Light wind right now in Lake City with a steady rain.
Not looking forward to the drive back late this afternoon.

We just got past a heavy squall band that had tornadic vorticity within it. School is holding kids in the classroom until all clear. The sky is getting brighter and most of the rain has stopped.

Re: Andrea Conditions in your Area

Looks like the rain has pretty much left here in Gulfport. My gauge collected a little over 4 inches since last night. The wind is picking up, but nothing intense. The bay is over the flood walls in town a little, not as bad as Tropical Storm Debbie last year.

Re: Andrea Conditions in your Area

Here in Cedar Key, we're at 34 mph with gusts in the 40's, though the wind has really been picking up the last half hour. Rain has been sporadic from sprinkle to downpour. Looks like it may make landfall somewhere between here and the Steinhatchee area. Biggest worry for us will be the coasting flooding and storm surge in the low lying areas.

Re: Andrea Conditions in your Area

Just noticed that the official report from Cedar Key at 3pm (19Z) had winds from due south at 35 knots gusting to 44 knots (50mph) and the pressure was at 1000.4MB and falling. I'd guess that your winds should peak in the next hour or two. Reports near landfall locations are often difficult to obtain.

Re: Andrea Conditions in your Area

Far away to the North In Raleigh.. but it's rained all day in heavy bands coming up from the south..and the ground is saturated and when and if we do get strong winds from what is left over from Andrea it is going to bring down more trees than it might otherwise.

Saturated soil is a problem in this region with red clay and some trees have shallow roots.

Re: Andrea Conditions in your Area

New Smyrna Beach, just south of Daytona:

The day began with some heavy rains, strong squalls, but now, at 6:12PM we actually see the sun and some blue sky amongst scattered clouds. Judging from the radar, we are just inside one of the bands of dry air being wrapped around Andrea. The kids actually went to have fun at the swimming pool. No way this is going to last more than a few hours, as the radar clearly shows a band of strong rain heading our way across the peninsula. But for now, so far so good.

Cheers!

Re: Andrea Conditions in your Area

The final tally here in Plant City was right at 4 inches of rainfall. Add that to the 0.95 we had 2 nights before and we have had a wet week for the beginning of June! Looks like more coming after the dry back-lash from Andrea moves back northward.
