South Florida is getting a good stream of Tropical Mousture coming up from the Yucatan this week, and if it weren't for the shearing effect of the winds then something could form.
But it's not. June is still not a good month for storm development, and I doubt we will see a named storm this month. We'll be watching. But unless shear dies down over the Gulf and Caribbean, we won't see anything.
There is a weak surface low off the eastern part of the Yucatan, and a surface low trough along Florida and Cuba, but both of these are being effected by the general condition of the upper level winds.
On my development scale, where are these systems?

John Hope has passed away this morning. I will miss his tropical updates greatly. The greatest of all time to say the least. They have a nice page about his life on .

Gone to the great big forecasting center in the sky! I'll miss John Hope as he was really the only reason to still watch 's tropical updates. The live on-the-scene reporting is okay, but the TU is so generic and telestrator-driven now that it's not worth the effort to sit by the tv at 10 minutes until with anyone else at the helm.

John Hope was probably the number one influence I had getting involved with Tropical Weather, period. He was one to question the from time to time, but always managed to do it in a respectful manner.
When talking about hurricanes, he is one you think of. Along with the likes of Neil Frank, Bob Sheets, Bill Gray, and Max Mayfield. They are synonymous with Tropical Weather.
You could tell John Hope really had a genuine interest and fascination with the weather, and it showed.
Thanks for the guidence along the way. God Bless you and rest in peace.

You guys have summed it up well with respect to Mr. Hope.
I've always enjoyed listening to his analysis and thought he gave some much needed credibility regarding tropical weather assessments ...

What a sad day. I never thought i would be affected so much by the passing of someone i never met. Having watched Mr. Hope for the past fifteen years or so, I never got the impression that he let a computer do his thinking for him, much like south Louisiana's most revered meteologist, and WWII compatriot Nash Roberts. They both seemed to make their own forecast decisions, and were not afraid to give their opinions. He also demonstrated how one could be the best at what he does, and still be humble at the same time. His loss is surely a great one.

I also would like to express my sadness on the passing away of JOHN HOPE,I grew up looking forward to seeing his views on the tropics, & I learned a great deal from him,I am glad he did what he loved to do all his great life,he will be missed.

There is a Anti-Cyclone (High Pressure) over the area of convection in the NW Carribean Sea,even the acknowledges that conditions are more favorable there,lets see if it holds.

I'm having a problem with the loops. Any computer wizards out there. The loop from the previous post only shows a blank window no loop. The transfering document goes down from 15 to Done then nothing. I've checked my settings including java and their all enabled but no loop......

Visible sat imagery and loops indicate a circulation may be developing near 24.5N 87W, on the western edge of the deep convection off the north of the Yucatan. It is pretty amazing to see how quickly the convection has blown up in this region, and given the more favourable upper level conditions perhaps we may see something develop here soon!
