      #82529 - Wed Aug 20 2008 05:51 PM

"The head of the Philippine weather bureau, Nathaniel Cruz, said Nuri was a powerful system and would likely gain strength as it slowly moves northwest at 13 mph across Babuyan and Calayan islands in the Luzon Strait toward Hong Kong and Guangdong in eastern China."

Nuri now a 60 kt. T.S. passing about 100 mi. south of Hong Kong. Northeasterly shear has been beating on Nuri, and passing very close to Luzon has probably helped weaken it as well. Hong Kong reporting north winds at 22 mph, 998 mb and partly cloudy skies. With that shear blowing the convection off to the south and west, I don't know that it's going to get much worse in Hong Kong.

Yes, thankfully Nuri has weakened a great deal since leaving the Philippines. Hong Kong is getting some action right now. Found these home videos just posted on Youtube.

Tseung Kwan O, New Territories, Hong Kong, China:

Not sure where this was shot probably in or around Hong Kong, but many of us are very familiar with that sound:
