For 9 days starting this Saturday, May 31st - Sunday, June 8th certain hurricane supplies will be tax free, so be hurricane prepared this year. The last time the hurricane supply tax-free week happened was in 2007.

Some of the specific items in the Sales Tax Holiday include:
· A portable self-powered light source selling for $20 or less
· A portable self-powered radio, two-way radio, or weather band radio selling for $50 or less
· A tarpaulin or other flexible waterproof sheeting selling for $50 or less
· A self-contained first-aid kit selling for $30 or less
· A ground anchor system or tie-down kit selling for $50 or less

There are some rules around bundled items that may disqualify it as well, more details can be found at

These including buying anything at a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport, or to the rental or repair of any of these items.

The start of the Atlantic hurricane season is June 1st. One area to watch is a potential low area near the Yucatan for next week, although odds are it will just be rain, the GFS model does show it possibly making it to the panhandle/Florida by the weekend after this one.

Also the National Hurricane Center has started an official blog called "Inside the Eye" at http://noaanhc.wordpress.com/
