Issued at 1048 AM CDT Tue Apr 7 2026 - Red Flag Warning for the western Florida Panhandle due to fire weather concerns today. Gusty winds and dry air combined with the ongoing severe to extreme drought will present dangerous fire conditions for much of the area, greatest across the western Florida Panhandle. - HIGH rip current risk for coastal Alabama and northwest Florida beaches through Friday. High surf with 4-6ft breakers are likely Wednesday and Thursday. - Strong marine winds and high seas continue over the Gulf waters through Thursday with gusts to gale-force expected over the offshore waters on Wednesday. && .DISCUSSION... Issued at 1048 AM CDT Tue Apr 7 2026 Even without any precipitation it still remains a rather busy period for weather impacts across coastal and marine areas this week. A strengthening pressure gradient across the area in association with strong high pressure to the east will help set the stage for strong, gusty winds across at least the southern half of the area today through Thursday. This will help generate high surf and dangerous life- threatening rip currents for coastal communities of Alabama and the western Florida Panhandle. A High Surf Advisory goes into effect Wednesday morning through Thursday morning as surf heights build in the 4 to 6 foot range. The High Risk for rip currents is now in effect for all beaches across the Alabama and western Florida Panhandle coast. This was upgraded today based on beach reports of strong rip currents, and will continue through Thursday night. A Red Flag warning was also issued for this afternoon due to the presence of dangerous fire conditions across the western Florida Panhandle. More on this can be found in the Fire Weather section of the AFD below. Outside of all that, the forecast remains dry as temperatures rebound back to above normal for the foreseeable future. Highs in the upper 70`s through midweek become lower to middle 80`s late week into the weekend. Lows generally stay in the lower to middle 50`s most nights. MM/25 && .AVIATION... A Gale Warning goes into effect for the open Gulf waters out 20 to 60 nm beginning late Tuesday night. MM/25 && .FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 1048 AM CDT Tue Apr 7 2026 Potential for dangerous burning conditions will exist today owing to gusty easterly to northeasterly winds coupled with dry antecedent drought conditions. Wind gusts will likely reach the 20 to 25 mph range with sustained winds around 10 to 15 mph this afternoon. Relative humidity values are expected to drop into the 20 to 25 percent range across the western Florida Panhandle, with around 25 percent elsewhere. The potential for dangerous fire conditions and rapid growth will exist across most areas, with the highest potential across the western Florida Panhandle today where a Red Flag Warning is now in effect.
