Issued at 1055 PM EDT Fri May 17 2024 It was another warm day for the Florida Keys with daytime temperatures once again near record at Key West International Airport. In fact temperatures as of 10 pm are still near the mid 80s with dew points ranging from 75 to 80 degrees. The combination of which is keeping heat index values in the mid to upper 90s currently. There is at least a breeze but it gives little relief to an otherwise early summer evening. Otherwise, there is just enough moisture to support the occasional strato- cu. This evening`s balloon sounding continues to show an appreciable deep dry layer situated below and above a narrow ribbon of moisture centered around 850 mb. There were some showers that developed along the north coast of Cuba but the dry air made quick work of them. Given the placement of a deep layer ridge over the Florida Keys and western Caribbean will continue to make it difficult for convection to not only initiate but sustain long enough to affect the Keys. Therefore see no need to adjust our near nil rain chances for the overnight. Winds did increase after sunset as expected and will continue through the overnight. Speeds will generally be 10 to 15 knots across the coastal waters and less than 15 mph along the island chain. We are likely to set a new warm minimum temperature tonight unfortunately. && .MARINE... Southeast breezes have freshened to gentle to moderate as expected and will persist through the overnight.The western extent of a low-level ridge axis extends west-northwest through the Bahamas and across the Keys. Southeast breezes will tend to peak and lull overnight through Sunday as the heating and cooling of South Florida and Cuba modulate the local wind forecast. There may be a break in the rain-free conditions Sunday night through Tuesday, followed by variable breezes Tuesday through Wednesday. && .AVIATION...
