Re: Florida Conditions/Observations in Your Area

The past two days have been just as bad here in Vero Beach as any full-fledged tropical storm. Here in Vero we have had over 13 inches of rain (according to my home rain gauge) since Friday night. Yesterday it rained and rained and rained and rained. Lots of problems with severe flooding, over-turned trees, and power outages; even so, flooding was minimized by the severe drought lowering canals and retention ponds in the area before this storm. Yesterday, in addition to the rain, we had steady winds over 30 mph and gusts over 45 mph out of the East (according to my home anemometer). Right now (Sunday, 8:00 PM) we are having wind gusts over 50 mph out of the North and an incredible lightning show, although we've had only intermittent rain today. Power was out 8 hours yesterday afternoon/evening here on the mainland near Gifford on the lagoon. Power is out on the island near the beach tonight (we were at Nino's when the power went out). In other words, it's got a lot of punch for a non-storm...
