Re: Irma Conditions/Observations in your Area

I tried to post conditions during the storm. My cellphone, I could read the posts on the site, but couldn't post. We had more than expected out of Irma here in Vero Beach. We were expecting 45-55mph and gust to 65. My personal weather station of course broke during the first big gust. We did record a gust of 84 before it broke. Lots of rain. I don't have any way to accurately measure that large of an amount,,but would guess somewhere between 12-16 inches of rain. The damage was minimal for the entire area. Mostly small limbs from the oak trees. Numerous people with out power still. FPL co-op is doing a remarkable job. 05, we were without power for 33 days total. We had power restored the next day after the storm. My wife and I have discussed the having 8 days notice to prepare for this storm. She thinks it might have been too much time. I'm inclined to agree. We shut down the business on Thursday to allow our people to get prepared and evacuate if they desired. My heart goes out to the people that took the heart of this monster. We know the feeling of losing nearly everything from 05. If it were not for the dry air and Cuba. This could have been much much worse.
