Sept 07, 2020 0630z Base image credit: Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies An incipient Tropical Cyclone, Invest 93L, is developing just off the west coast of Africa this morning, September 7, 2020, and we are starting a Lounge on what is almost certain to become the 16th or 17th (and even possibly 18th, depending) named storm of this red hot season. Invest 93L has become TD18 and the title has been updated accordingly. |

Invest 93L has been confirmed by NHC to be a Tropical Cyclone, and advisories have begun on TD18, and the title will be updated accordingly. As of 800 AM CVT Mon Sep 07 2020, EIGHTEEN was centered near 15.2N 20.3W with maximum sustained winds of 30 KTS. TD18 will likely get named soon, although it is unclear whether TD17 or TD18 will be named first. Models are fairly aggressive on bringing TD18 up to hurricane force in just a few short days, but mostly keep it out to sea. However, this is early on, and although odds favor a recurvature well away from the states, it is not yet certain. Things can change with so much ocean and time yet available. |
