Friday November 13, 2020 Invest 98L became a Tropical Cyclone, the incredible 31st of the hyperactive 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season. At the 4PM EST update, THIRTY-ONE was upgraded to Tropical Storm Iota, the record-setting 30th Named Storm of the year, and the title has been updated accordingly.
Tropical Storm Iota appears to have a 6-in-10 chance of Rapid Intensification over the next few days, and is now explicitly forecast to become a Major Hurricane in the western Caribbean. It is worth noting that several model runs support the potential to become a high-end Major.

After having lived in Costa Rica for many years, these storms that develop like TS Iota is now and as hurricane Eta did cause a great deal of mud slides and flooding with great hardships and deaths. I hope this one is not like Eta or the others. This has been true even as far south as Drake Bay on the South Pacific side of Costa Rica where we have a home. We need to watch this one real close.
