Atlantic & Eastern Pacific
      #73101 - Fri Sep 01 2006 09:59 AM

I have noticed over the last couple of seasons, not much to base this on, but are there any connections between the activity in the Eastern Pacific and the Atlantic with regard to Hurricanes.

Last year the Eastern Pacific had a very slow season, while the atlantic had the busiest on record. This year it seems the Eastern Pacific is rather busy and the Atlantic rather quiet, or at least quieter than last year.

Any thoughts?

From Klotzbach and Gray Forecast update issued today, 9/1/06, section 4.3

"The increase of this year’s August hurricane activity in the eastern Pacific is another indication of suppressed Atlantic conditions. These two tropical cyclone basins have tended to be negatively correlated in recent years. When eastern Pacific activity is enhanced, as it has been this August, Atlantic activity is usually suppressed. "
