Hi Guys!
My first post here. Just to let ALL know that I follow this board for your insights and links. My job is the Dept of Defense Coordinator for Military Support to Civil Authorities in NC. I have been in the State EOC tracking this storm and will be permanently deploying there tomorrow in case FEMA activates and DOD needs to provide support.
I have sprayed the NC coast for three years with my can of Teflon. My can just ran empty.

Jim: Were you in NC for and Floyd or have you only been there the three years (BTW: LOL on the teflon joke) you've been spraying the coast?

I've been in NC since '93. Been through Bertha, Fran (lots of good firewood from my backyard with that one) and all others since then. Been in my current job since April '00.
My other running joke was that I had the one job in my unit (4th Brigade of the 78th Division) that nobody wants me to actually WORK...
well, guess what. Work has begun....

The 6z run of the shows the eye going directly over wilmington and then over Raleigh NC. Pretty much exactly like Fran, Hazel...

it's been four years since floyd re-enforced this rule i've been going by since '96 or so.. if there's a hurricane approaching the east coast, there are two options A) it weakens and hits north carolina. or B) it misses the coast
naturally this is another instance of case A.
i think you guys are going to luck out as far as how hard a lick you take, i'd be very surprised if isabel made it back to cat 4 range. right now it's still entraining dry air, which is the equivalent of you or me inhaling large quantities of sawdust.. not beneficial.
