Since yesterday, a potent storm system has been moving over England and Wales. Apparently, it's the deepest low pressure system to ever move through the British Isles at this time of year. We're not supposed to get this kind of storm until winter. The hardest hit areas are in the South. There's been localised flooding, and gusts of over 50mph. There hasn't been much damage, but lots of roads and railways have suffered delays because of fallen trees. It hasn't been too bad for me here. Yesterday it was quite windy, but during the night we had an inch of rain with gusty winds. I was quite lucky here, because just down the road a few thousand homes lost power because of trees falling onto the lines. As if all this weather in July wasn't enough, its supposed to get cold afterwards. British Gas have put into operation its winter emergency contingency plan to prepare for a surge in demand with people switching on central heating, but that's mainly in the north. That's a British summer for you!
Not really comparable to a tropical system that any of you will have experienced, but it's the closest we get to them up here. Sorry for the lengthy post.

There was plenty of rain there this year! It's nothing like last year, when we had the hottest, sunniest summer for a couple of centuries. Something like that again would be OK
