Getting your Home and property ready
      #85386 - Wed May 13 2009 04:52 PM

With the new season upon us, I thought it might be a good idea to let any non natives and new comers know there are ways to get your property ready to better withstand storm force winds and flooding. By doing what you can well before the threat of a storm, you may be able to sleep alittle easier for the next few months. There is alot you can do now to get your house and property in good shape for a storm. Inspect your roof, trim back trees, be sure sheds and storage buildings are tied down securely, fix drainage problems, gather together important papers in a secure containers, copy computer hard drives to a portable system, and know your evacuation routes as well as away from home plans in case they are needed. You can also check out these two articles for more detailed information if you like.,

Very early in the season, but what does anyone make of this

Survived Carol and Edna '54 in Maine. Guess this kind of dates me!

I am a long time computer network tech. I use for my backups. There are a number of programs like it on the market and I suggested people using it to backup their mission critical data. There is not going to be time to deal with burning CDs or DVDs if the CAT3+ is heading towards you.

An alternative to online storage/backup would be just to get yourself a 1TB backup drive. Storage capacity is huge and if for any reason you have to vacate in a hurry, you simply unplug it and take it with you. They're small enough now that you could easily slip it into a gym bag or purse. It's one of the many survival tools I implement in my household.
