Atlanta Flooding
      #86954 - Mon Sep 21 2009 12:35 PM

Not sure how many people have been watching the fairly rough rain event in Atlanta, but we've had a stalled system dragging moisture up from the gulf for the last several days and it culminated last night into a vicious set of storms in various parts of the metro area. I believe we've had rain totals breaking 12 inches in the last 12 hours in some areas.

Where I live isn't the worst hit and we're dealing with some fairly serious flooding in the basement and the rain isn't slowing down. If anything, I think the flooding is going to get quite a bit worse over the next couple of days.

Keep an eye out and if people have any reports, I'd love to hear them.

I would assume that the drought is over. These extremes are unfortunate.

Georgia Flooding [Re: Bloodstar]
      #86956 - Tue Sep 22 2009 07:10 AM

Sorry to hear about all the flooding. I have a friend in Young Harris, in Northern Georgia, near the Brasstown Creek. He lives on a hill but a few of his neighbors have had the road washed out last night & couldn't get home, so they all spent the night over at his place. Made huge pizzas for everybody & they all watched Monday night football with the rain pouring down outside. What'a Guy! Sure better than a shelter!

I'm located about 10 miles northwest of the Melbourne NWS office and had a total of 0.03" for October. For me that was the driest month in just over 21 years.
