Stil the off season, Flhurricane is starting to gear up for the 2006 Atlantic Season, which starts on June 1st. The Pacific Season starts in the middle of May.
This year the forecasters at Colorado State University again predict a higher than average year, and I see no reason to doubt that this year will be yet another active year. We can hope it will be less than the previous two years. Especially after the storms in Florida, and the category 5 systems from 2005. Australia has been seeing a larger than normal series of dangerous Tropical Cyclones as well this year, and yet another is approaching the coast now.
HF Edit--Decisions on name retirements were announced today, with five storms being enshrined--Dennis, Katrina, Rita, Stan, and Wilma. Oddly, Emily didn't make the cut, so we'll be seeing another danged Emily in 2011. The WMO meeting should also produce a list of alternate names in case we go past 21 again, so the Greek storms were a one-time thing. Odds of us seeing many seasons that go past 21 are low, though 2005 proves that it can happen. We'll be adding a few new features to the site for the start of the new season, and more ways to look through storm data.
