     tallahassee, florida set the state record low on this date in 1899 at -2 F. during this extreme arctic outbreak snow fell on much of the gulf coast, and ice floes reached the mouth of the mississippi a few days afterward. daytime highs stayed below freezing for much of the southeastern u.s for three to four days.
